Tips for your jewelry

As is the general rule, jewellery should always be looked after with great care, regardless of what it is comprised of.

Caring for jewellery involves some simple advice:

  • Avoid contact with any cosmetics or household products that could damage the colour.
  • To clean jewellery always use soap and warm water (neutral PH) and a brush with soft bristles. Dry afterwards with a cloth.
  • It is important to check the clasps and catches frequently to see if they are secure.
  • It is also recommended to check the settings frequently in jewellery to make sure that the stones are not loose or have not already fallen out.
  • Do not expose jewellery to extreme temperatures.
  • The correct protection for each piece is to keep it in its original box or bag.
  • If you use a jewellery case, make sure that the pieces are kept in separate compartments.
  • Avoid leaving chains loose and out as they may get knots in them.

If you have any doubts about the condition of your jewellery, we recommend that you not wear it until it has been checked by an expert. Aristocrazy are very happy to help.

Some brief suggestions concerning caring for sterling silver:

  • Always avoid contact with rough surfaces.
  • The less a piece of jewellery rubs against something the longer the life it will have.
  • Aristocrazy recommends that each piece is put away separately into a bag or box.
  • Sterling silver jewellery should be cleaned with a polishing cloth.

Thanks to its hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, a diamond will only become scratched if one is rubbed against another. Regardless of this, it is important to get into the habit of taking care of such a precious and delicate stone.

Suggestions for the care of 18 ct gold and diamond jewellery:

  • To clean jewellery always use soap and warm water (neutral PH) and a brush with soft bristles. Dry afterwards with a cloth.
  • A diamond can very easily scratch other stones and metals so try to keep them from rubbing against each other.

Stones can visibly deteriorate when in contact with chemicals such as acids, alcohol, perfumes and detergents, etc... Different temperatures can have an altering effect too.

Keep natural stones, such as pearls, well away from chemical agents such as soap, perfume, creams and detergents as they are more susceptible than other gems. Avoid direct contact with heat such as lighting and radiators as precious stones like these will disintegrate.

To keep them at their best, we recommend cleaning a watch with a cloth. Being in constant contact with the skin, the watch case and strap should be cleaned regularly and carefully with a clean, dry cloth, taking extra care with the yellow and rose gold plated finishes.

Our watch straps are made of excellent quality leather and so frequent exposure to water can harm them. Clean both strap and clasp every so often with a cloth.

Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures (saunas and turkish baths) and try not to knock it, especially on the crown and crystal. On rare occasions, the crown may open if caught on such things as clothing (taking gloves or coat off, etc..) so take great care to make sure that it is closed, otherwise it will no longer be watertight.
